BRIDGE for cities - Belt and Road Initiative: Developing Green Economies for Cities (2nd BRI Event)

Organized by UNIDO and the Finance Centre for South-South Cooperation, the 2nd BRI event will be held in Vienna from 26 to 28 September 2017. To reflect the importance of green urban-industrial development and its overall impact on the nation’s economy, and to emphasize the role of the Belt and Road Initiative in bringing together hub, or “bridge”, cities, the title of the annual event has been changed from the “One-Belt-One-Road Inclusive and Sustainable City Exhibition and Dialogue” to “BRIDGE for cities - Belt and Road Initiative: Developing Green Economies for Cities”.

The key features of the 2nd BRI event are:

  • The 2nd BRI event will focus on sector-specific urban-industrial development challenges within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, which will aid in the development of concrete project-based opportunities for business matchmaking, financing and investment.
  • Throughout the event, UNIDO will highlight cities’ dependence on industrial development for economic and infrastructural growth, as well as industry’s reliance on resources readily available in urban areas.
  • Project-oriented investment opportunities portfolios, informed by the unique urban-industrial development context of each identified city, will also be developed to better facilitate partnerships between cities, the business sector and financial institutions.
