General Information

ISID Operation Platform

About the platform

The platform on inclusive and sustainable industrial development serves as a dynamic portal for promoting UNIDO’s mandate and has a special focus on the enhanced partnership approach. It will help leverage and coordinate resources for implementing inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID), promote specific investment opportunities and facilitate matchmaking between different stakeholders.

The platform will showcase UNIDO’s role in the post-2015 development agenda by focusing on the Organization’s key activities, especially the flagship Programmes for Country Partnership (PCP) and highlight their relevance in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular goal 9: “Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation”.

The new ISID platform will also function as a dynamic reporting mechanism to Member States and other interested parties. Its increasingly interactive functions will offer communication channels for discussion on ISID and allow Member States to pose questions with regard to specific UNIDO services.

The platform functions as a supplement to the main UNIDO website.

Three-phase roll-out

The new platform will be rolled-out in three phases. The current first phase reveals a few key sections and presents information in a one-way communication style.

The second phase will integrate additional interactive functions, offer a better interface and introduce channels to facilitate communication between Member States and the Organization. A ”speakers’ corner” will also be introduced to present views from prominent figures and experts, including academics, government officials, private sector representatives, UNIDO project managers, as well as project beneficiaries.

In its third phase, the platform will take on an investment promotion role and present varied investment opportunities, bringing interested parties together. Access to confidential and sensitive information will be restricted.

Navigating the platform

Designed as a user-friendly and graphically intuitive interface, it features scroll-down functions, and currently has several sections. One outlines the ISID approach and its relevance to the SDGs, and exhibits UNIDO’s global activities within the three ISID pillars. It will later be linked with UNIDO’s transparency initiative. A Forums section highlights global UNIDO events on ISID. A Partnerships section presents UNIDO’s existing network with the private sector, developments finance institutions (DFIs), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Green Industry Platform, Investment and Technology Promotion Offices (ITPOs) and AfriPANet. Another section introduces the Programmes for Country Partnership and reports on the progress of the pilot PCPs, in Ethiopia and Senegal. This section will also present investment profiles for each PCP in due course. Finally, a News section highlights key ISID achievements, PCP milestones and new partnerships, and also hosts the “speakers’ corner”.
